Bronson Honolulu Deluxe Flat Top Acoustic Guitar , c. 1936
Bronson Honolulu Deluxe Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1936, made in Chicago, sunburst top, natural back and sides finish, brazilian rosewood back and sides, spruce top, black tolex hard shell case.
A very interesting and rare 1930's flat-top guitar. Bronson was a Detroit-based spinoff of the Oahu publishing empire and did a similar business selling primarily Hawaiian guitar arrangements to students, and the instruments to go with them! This unusual flat-top is an example of a very high-end Bronson instrument, and appears to have always been a Spanish-style guitar. The guitar was almost certainly built by Regal in Chicago, and like the similar Bacon & Day guitars of the period is an example of Regal's very best work.
This is an X-braced Brazilian rosewood flat-top of the same general dimensions as a Gibson L-0 but with a longer scale neck, mounted quite far up on the body. The headstock is faced in pearloid with the "Bronson Honolulu De-Luxe" logos incised and painted. This is a powerful sounding and very unique 1930's flat top guitar. Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 14 5/8 in. (37.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Very clean overall; very little wear and no cracks evident. Back of neck appears to have possibly been oversprayed up to the headstock area and tuners are recent. Bridge is a very fine exact repro. Neck has been reset and playability is excellent. Excellent Condition.
