Gibson LG-2 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, c. 1949, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

This is a nice early example of an LG-2, Gibson's classic smaller body flat-top guitar model from the 1940's and '50's. Typical features include a sunburst top finish, small tortoise celluloid pickguard, small rectangle bridge, triple bound top and single bound back. The postwar block Gibson logo is the earliest version with the "joined" dot, on a headstock still showing the prewar tapering sides. This guitar has a comfortable round-backed neck, slimmer than the wartime "baseball bat" but with a bit more depth than the typical 1950's style. Overall a very nice instrument, a bit played in but not abused.

Overall length is 39 1/2 in. (100.3 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 7/16 in. (11.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). A very nice original example of a late-1950's Gibson LG-2, showing some fairly minor typical play wear but no major damage or repair. Everything is original except the the tuners, which are modern repros of the correct late 1940's Style Klusons. The original bridge has been lowered and sloped forward just a bit, which is a typical maintenance job of these earlier Gibson flat-tops with the narrow bridge construction. There are small dings to the finish overall and some pickwear to the top around the soundhole and below the pickguard. There is some checking overall, one notable belt-buckle scar to the back and some wear to the treble side of the neck. Much of the finish still has a nice shine to it. The frets are in good shape with some light wear in the lower positions, and the guitar plays well, another very fine sounding old LG. Excellent - Condition.
