Gibson BR-9 Tube Amplifier, c. 1955
Gibson BR-9 Model Tube Amplifier, c. 1955, made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 12742, cream fabric finish.
This is the larger mid-'50's version of Gibson's classic student steel amplifier, the BR-9. This model was in production much longer than any of the other late-'40's BR-models, remaining the mainstay of Gibson's teaching studio sales-usually paired with the matching lap steel. This later version of the BR-9 amp features a wider rectangular cabinet in place of the earlier trapeziod, but the amp's chassis and circutry stayed generally the same. This is a low wattage amp with a single volume control (helpfully) marked "increase" with an arrow, and is more about tonal sweetness than volume. A very fine example. Height is 14 in. (35.6 cm.), 17 3/16 in. (43.7 cm.) width, and 7 in. (17.8 cm.) deep. A very nice example, all original amp including tubes. The only notable alteration is a modern grounded plug. Very clean cabinet with original stitched handle still intact. Excellent Condition.
