C. F. Martin 000-28 EC Eric Clapton Signature Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1999), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 692209, sunburst top, natural back and sides finish, Indian rosewood back and sides,Sitka spruce top, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

Hot on the heels of the 000-42 Eric Clapton signature model inspired by his "Unplugged" success came this somewhat less expensive 000-28 edition, offering the same basic sound and design without the high-dollar pearl trim. Martin described the guitar thus:

"The Martin 000-28EC Eric Clapton Signature Acoustic Guitar is handcrafted with a premium East Indian rosewood back and sides and a bookmatched top of select quartersawn Sitka spruce. Its smaller 000 body size and short 24-9/10" scale help produce delicate, balanced tones. The rosette and soundboard are inlaid with herringbone wood marquetry, and the body is bound with grained ivoroid. An ebony fingerboard features a long diamonds-and-squares pattern in abalone pearl. Eric's signature is inlaid in mother-of-pearl between the 19th and 20th frets. Tastefully appointed with hand-beveled tortoise pickguard, nickel-plated open-geared machines equipped with unique butterbean knobs. Each Martin Eric Clapton Signature Guitar bears an interior label, individually numbered in sequence."

Overall length is 39 7/8 in. (101.3 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/16 in. (10.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

This guitar is ageing in nicely, now over two decades old and sounding great. The finish has some very light wear overall, but no major issues. The top center seam has been resealed neatly, and a strap button added to the heel. There are no other notable repairs; an undersaddle pickup rig has been added for ease in gigging. This is a very nice modern (well, 20+ year old modern) Martin rosewood 000, easy playing with an excellent sound. Excellent - Condition.
