Fender Telecaster Custom Shop 1964 NOS Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (2006), made in Corona, CA, serial # R30902, silver sparkle finish, alder body, maple neck with maple fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

Although not specifically noted by Fender, this guitar is an unofficial Custom Shop reissue of the unique special Telecasters built in 1964 for Buck Owens and Don Rich, lead guitarist of the Buckaroos. The body is finished in silver sparkle with black binding, while the neck has a laid-on maple fingerboard, something Fender had not offered before that particular pair of guitars was made. Apparently Buck requested a maple fingerboard on these new instruments like it had been on the 50's Fenders he preferred, and the company had to come up with a way to bring back the then-discontinued feature!

The original completely distinctive set of guitars was delivered in 1964 and became a showpiece of Buck's act, causing other players of the time to ask for both sparkle finishes and (more commonly) maple fingerboards, which Fender made a catalog option a year or so on. This guitar is a well-done and accurate repro of the "Buck & Don" specials, one of the cooler Custom Shop Fenders we have seen. It is wired in the "Modern" style allowing both pickups to be selected, but an extra capacitor is included in the case presumably in the unlikely event anyone would want to re-wire it the 1964-correct "mud cap" system. The CS certificate is darted to 08-29-06 and carries the signature of Alex Nicholas.

Overall length is 38 3/8 in. (97.5 cm.), 12 5/8 in. (32.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This guitar is technically used but shows virtually no wear, complete in the original G&G case with a the original strap, cord and a passel of paperwork. This is a great sounding and playing Tele and a fine (if stealth) tribute to Buck & Don. You can "Act Naturally" and get a "Tiger by the Tail" with this one for sure! Near Mint Condition.
