Silvertone Model 1457 Amp-In-Case Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar, made by Danelectro (1965), made in Neptune, NJ, serial # 4105, red/black sunburst with sparkles finish, Masonite and pine body, poplar neck with rosewood fingerboard, masonite case, original grey hard shell case.

This is THE classic Danelectro-made Silvertone 1960s guitar, sold exclusively through Sears and the original equipment for thousands of teen combos and garage bands in the mid-1960s. While the single pickup model has a short scale neck and more basic feel, the 1457 was (by Danelectro standards at least) a pro-grade guitar with a full scale neck and very versatile sonics. The double cutaway asymmetrical body has sharp curling "horns," a white Masonite pickguard and the traditional Dan-O chrome plate bridge with rosewood saddle. The neck is topped with a Silvertone logo "paddle" headstock with skate key-style tuners. The two great-sounding Dan-O lipstick pickups are controlled by a 3-way switch and concentric tone/volume pots, allowing the widest range of tones.

The amp/case combination is actually surprisingly good-sounding, although not entirely practical for many situations! The neck heel of the guitar and the Jensen speaker both shows a late 1965 date stamps, so this set was probably being assembled just in time for Christmas that year when an electric guitar was still every kid's dream! This is a nice example of these great-sounding and playing little guitars, a little worn in but still a lovely piece of fretted nostalgia, one of the best bargains in an American-made vintage guitar still going. This one was found "Down Da Shore" in New Jersey apparently never having strayed from its birthplace in Neptune.

Overall length is 37 1/2 in. (95.2 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 13/16 in. (46 mm.).
This is a nice original set with some general wear and tear but both pieces remain functional and generally well-preserved. The guitar is an excellent player, completely original and unmodified showing some average wear. The be-sparkled finish shows dings, rubs and paint chips to the body edges and neck, with some small chips off the headstock edges but no major wear. All hardware is original, the neck is good, the frets not much worn and it sounds great.

The amp case shows some external wear to the covering (mostly at the corners) from 50+ years of handling, including one long scratch and some slightly ratty spots to the grillcloth. The amp has been checked out and given a 3-prong cord for safety; it still works as expected and sounds surprisingly good. The trem footswitch has gone missing, the handle is replaced and inside of the case shows some fairly minor wear. Overall this not the cleanest we have had but a good playing example of this classic garage band combo, straight out of 1965 into the 21st century. Overall Excellent - Condition.
