Matchless Hurricane 15 Model Tube Amplifier (1996), made in Los Angeles, California, serial # F4267, green tolex finish.

This Matchless "mini-stack" is a very early example of the first run of the Hurricane 15 models (now discontinued). Per the current Matchless amplifier line-up, the Hurricane was essentially a Spitfire with the addition of on-board tremolo. Circuit-wise, the model is an homage to the Vox AC-15, with a pair of EL-84 output tubes yielding approximately 15 watts of power. The amplifier was custom-ordered in 1996 as a head and cabinet set. The cabinet is loaded with four 10" ceramic Matchless "Special Design" Celestion speakers.

Height is 34 in. (86.4 cm.), 25 in. (63.5 cm.) width, and 11 in. (27.9 cm.) deep.

This example is in near mint condition, showing virtually no signs of wear. The green tolex is in fantastic shape with no notable scuffing -- even the black plastic corner covers are clean! The only part that shows some wear is the clear plastic handle. There's also a small coin-sized dent on the right lower side edge of the 4x10 cabinet. The Matchless logo on the cabinet still retains its protective plastic film. Both the front and back panels are shiny and the amp comes with brown custom-made covers made by Studio Slips.

Electrically, the amp is original and factory stock. All the components are in great shape working perfectly and the amp is fully functional. It features a very nice set of NOS Phillips JAN EL-84s. The date code on the power transformer is 7-2-96, indicating the assembly year of 1996.

The following is from the manufacturers description of the current Spitfire model (Hurricane w/o tremolo):

"The Spitfire comes in a lightweight, compact cabinet, but still packs the same punch you’ve come to expect from Matchless. Like all Matchless amplifiers, the Spitfire is hand made, point to point wired and tough as nails. User controls are Volume, Tone, and Master Volume

Driven by one 12AX7, simplistic in design but with a wide range of function and tone. The creamy tone of the Spitfire perfectly galvanizes the bridge pickup sound for both classic and modern rock sounds. The easy to dial controls and minimalist foundation makes it perfect for Jazz, Blues, Chord Melody, Country picking, and Rock."

this is a "Modern" amp for us, but the tone is "vintage" enough we still think it's cooking with gas! Near Mint Condition.
