Beard Vintage R Dobro Model Resophonic Guitar (2004), made in Hagerstown, Maryland, serial # D-442, natural satin lacquer finish, laminated birch body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

Beard Dobros are pretty much universally acknowledged as among the finest of their type, and often regarded as a structural (and often sonic) improvement on their depression-era predecessors. This Model R is fairly closely styled on the classic Pre-war Dobros with a vintage-style birch veneer construction, open sound well body design and square neck with a 25" scale, dot inlay with rosewood fretboard. A Vintage-styled dark mahogany satin finish is set off by the chrome hardware. The headstock is solid instead of slotted, with Schaller Rotomatic style tuners.

This is what Beard say about this model: "Beard Vintage R Models capture the spirit and flavor of the classic resonator guitar of the 1930s. The beautifully grained birch veneer top, back, sides and open sound well body design combine to produce a growling powerful bass and clear bight treble sound, perfect for traditional playing styles. The gracefully hand-shaped mahogany neck with a solid peg-head and precision tuning machines produces a desirable balance between sustain and decay." This is indeed a wonderful sounding Dobro, both sweet and powerful and pretty much the equal, or better, of any vintage model we have heard.

Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).

This fine modern/vintage styled Dobro appears very little played over the past 18 years, showing hardly any wear at all. It sounds fantastic with a deep, rich yet still Dobrolically twangy tone. It is strung with a new set of Flat-Tops strings, complete in its original HSC. Near Mint Condition.
