Gibson BR-9 Model Lap Steel Electric Guitar (1952), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, tan lacquer finish, hardwood body, black gig bag case.

This is a great sounding original example of Gibson's most basic postwar lap steel, the BR-9. It was built in 1952 (the pot codes are to the second week of that year) on a stepped hardwood body with a standard Gibson headstock. The Br-9 equipped with an early model P-90 style pickup that has solid magnet slugs instead of adjustable poles, giving an added snap to the tone.

Overall length is 32 in. (81.3 cm.), 8 1/8 in. (20.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 in. (559 mm.). Width of nut is 2 1/4 in. (57 mm.).

This guitar shows some relatively light wear to the original finish, mostly dings and chips to the body and headstock edges. The pickup and wiring remain original, the knobs are a nice set of 1950s Harmony "Cupcake kniobs that look great, the tuners are correct style repros as is the jackplate; the jack itself is replaced as well. Even though a budget model this steel sounds excellent -- a typically fat singing Gibson steel with that P-90 midrange growl and some extra pop on the top end from the magnet-slug P-90. It is still housed in a modern gig bag that fits well. Very Good + Condition.
