Gibson Les Paul Model Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1956), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 612660, gold lacquer top, natural back and sides finish, mahogany body with maple cap, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown hard shell case.
Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 15/16 in. (4.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
This 69 year old Les Paul is the opposite of a closet queen; it has seen has seen wear, tear and repair but remains a great playing and sounding instrument. The top has been professionally refinished in the correct gold, and the back of the neck and the headstock have a clear lacquer overspray preserving the original serial number. The finish on back and sides remains original and very well worn showing the effects of exposure to moisture.
There is no evidence of any breaks or structural modifications, just finish work. The original hardware is intact and complete, except for a replaced jackplate. It is generally well preserved showing some general tarnish and in some cases signs of polishing out but mostly really not that heavily worn considering. Someone added an easily removable extra wire to help retain the saddles of the original no-wire ABR-1 bridge, easily removed.
The guitar has an old refret with correct style wire, with some residual divoting to the fingerboard. Along with a newer hardshell the original brown case is included, VERY well worn with moisture damage but with material on the lid indicating it spent time at Ardent Studios in Memphis. Maybe this gold top once had a brush with a Big Star, who knows! Overall Very Good Condition.
