Harmony H-1270 Model 12 String Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1967), made in Chicago, serial # 6856H1270, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; poplar neck with rosewood fingerboard, gig bag case.

This H-1270 was a fairly deluxe Harmony offering, their top-of-the-line 12 string flat top. It is built with a multi-bound good grade solid spruce top with ladder bracing, solid mahogany back and sides, and big chunky mahogany neck with a bound rosewood fingerboard. As built these Harmony 12s were nice guitars-in-waiting, solidly made but often plagued by high action and indifferent fret work. This one is a fine playing example having received a clean neck reset, fret work and a general going-over.

This model is one of the best-sounding of its breed as well; a big, open-sounding guitar, one of Harmony's all-time finest flat-tops and in this period and really about as good as their acoustic line got. This one dates to 1967 (there is a faint "F-67" factory mark on the back) when it cost $139.50 plus case. While not untouched by the years this remains a cool solid wood 1960s vintage acoustic 12-string that won't break the bank.

Overall length is 41 1/2 in. (105.4 cm.), 15 1/4 in. (38.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

This not-quite 60 year old Harmony H-1270 12-string has survived better than many and is a nice playing and sounding guitar. The finish has checking, scuffs, and dings and a couple of deeper "case bites" to the top but no major wear areas. The back finish gas been buffed out with a few touched-up scratches. There are two long sealed grain splits to the spruce top on the upper bass bout caused by an old impact; these are solidly sealed up but visible. The top has another very small grain split off the lower bout edge, the neck, sides and neck are crack free. The original Waverly tuners and tailpiece are intact, the pickguard is a replacement (they often shrink and pull up) as is the heelcap. The neck has been neatly reset and the frets crowned and this is as good a player as these come, with a nice low action and deep, rich sound. Overall Very Good + Condition.
