Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1976), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 76-51232, sunburst polyester finish, ash body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

This is a very nicely preserved example of a 1976 Bicentennial-year Fender Precision, with an ash body in the still-standard sunburst finish with the then-new black pickguard. The features are typical for this mid-70s period, with the plastic finger rest now located above the strings and a slimmer nut width. At close to 11 pounds, this is a heavyweight even for a '76 and has a powerful and growly tone.

The neck heel has a small green-ink code and a couple of inspection ink stamps, while the pots are dated to the 18th week of 1976. This bass has an early example of the then-new date-encoded serial numbers on the headstock decal, something CBS/Fender tried for a few years then abandoned as too much trouble. The poly-finished maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard and slim 1 5/8" nut, topped off with the large black Fender logo decal.

This bass still plays and sounds great; an excellent gigging and recording instrument and more proof that, even in the depths of the CBS-Fender era, the Precision Bass was a design that was almost foolproof!

Overall length is 46 in. (116.8 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.)., 10.8 lbs.

This is a nice, clean all original bass showing just some fairly minor wear overall. There are some scuffs, dings and dents to the finish, with one wear spot through the top layer of (very thick) Poly above the pickguard. Internally someone removed the Poly finish from the treble side edge of the neck pocket and a bit of the floor, probably to get a better neck fit. The neck is STILL very tight to the body as is so this may be factory work, although there is a small chip above it from the neck being removed.

The pickups and wiring are original as is all hardware (down to the screws) including both chrome covers; the foam is still intact under the bridge cover. This is a very good player with a solid growly sound, creeping up on 50 years old and still the world standard in low-end muscle. The original black Tolex Fender case is included, fully solid with some light external wear Overall Excellent Condition.
