Fender Musicmaster Bass Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1979)
Fender Musicmaster Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1979), made in Fullerton, California, serial # S-834813, black polyester finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black chipboard case.
This is a nice original end-of-the-1970s Fender Musicmaster bass in a punk-era appropriate all-black livery. This was the Fender company's most basic 4-string instrument for that decade, and a great first bass for many aspiring players then and since. This one shows some light general wear with dings, dents and scuffing but no major loss. The "S-8" serial number is generally held to suggest a 1978 build date, but the original pickup and pots carry codes indicating assembly in 1979.
The neck finish, fingerboard and frets are quite clean and the bass remains all original. It plays excellent and sounds as it should, timelessly cool looking in its all-black livery and still one of the solidest and best beginner's basses ever made. This one is fairly heavy like many '70's basses at over 9 Lbs. but still handles well. With its 30" short-scale neck the Musicmaster remains a very comfortable 4-string for beginners but still quite suitable for live and recording situations despite its budget origin.
Overall length is 42 1/8 in. (107 cm.), 12 1/4 in. (31.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 30 in. (762 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.)., 9.22 lbs.
This is a relatively clean and all original end-of-the-1970s Fender Musicmaster bass. It shows general wear some small dings, dents and light scuffing to the pickguard but no heavy wear, repairs or alterations. It plays and sounds as it should, timelessly cool looking in its all-black livery and still one of the solidest and best beginner's basses ever made. The 30" short-scale Musicmaster is a very comfortable 4-string quite suitable for live and recording situations despite its budget origins. This one is even still in its original Fender-branded chipboard case, functional if not elegant with a missing center latch. Overall Excellent - Condition.
