Jerry Jones Neptune Model 12 String Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1998), made in Nashville, TN, serial # 984514, black lacquer with vinyl siding finish, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.
Jerry Jones' Neptune 12-string is based on a modernized version of the late-1950s Danelectro U-2, re-imagined as a 12 string. Its two Jerry Jones lipstick pickups giving a cool range of tones, from bright to more mellow but still transparent. This older 1998 example is built on the original more accurately Dano-esque body rather than the somewhat more angular shape Jones adopted in the coming years, after being cease-and-desisted by the later owners of the Danelectro brand.
One welcome upgrade from 1960s spec is a 12-saddle fully adjustable bridge instead of the original wooden-saddle Danno style. "Tweakin' Tradition" was the slogan for the Neptune models, and this model is certainly a cool example of that philosophy in action. This is a fine example of Jones' work, one of the more original of the well made and very useful instruments.
Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This guitar is in lightly used condition appearing played but not abused or altered, showing some light scuffing and a few noticeable dings and scratches to the finish around the instrument, most notably the edges of the headstock. The top of the body has a few tiny scratch and ding touchups. This is an excellent-playing and sounding instrument, one of the more original creations of the now-closed, much-missed Jerry Jones Nashville workshop, an excellent jangle machine living in a quality black hardshell case.. Excellent - Condition.
