Epiphone Devon Model Arch Top Acoustic Guitar (1950), made in New York, NY, serial # 59381, sunburst top, natural back and sides finish, walnut back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown hard shell case.
Overall length is 42 in. (106.7 cm.), 17 3/8 in. (44.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This old New York Epiphone remains in lovely original condition with some light wear but no notable repairs. The finish shows small dings and dents but not much serious playwear. The original celluloid pickguard has been notched for a pickup and the metal "E" epsilon logo once mounted there has gone missing. The binding has minimal distress, unlike many Epiphones from this period. There is a strap button added to the heel.

There is a very small stress tear at the base of the Frequensator tailpiece on the bass side -- almost universal on examples of this vintage -- but it remains solid and is not moving. Overall this is an exceptionally good playing and sounding guitar for a mid-line archtop, one of the nicest Epiphones from this period we have had. The Devon was not a particularly expensive model in 1950, but this is a very fine instrument nonetheless. Includes a lovely original alligator-grain HSC that has been with it from the beginning. Excellent - Condition.
