Harmony H-44 Stratotone Model Solid Body Electric Guitar, c. 1955, made in Chicago, copper lacquer finish, hardwood body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original two-tone chipboard case.

Overall length is 36 7/16 in. (92.5 cm.), 10 3/4 in. (27.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

This example of Harmony's primal slab-O-wood solidbody has some light finish wear overall with just minor dings, chips and scrapes to the metallic copper lacquer. Cosmetically this H-44 is still cleaner than many examples of this often well-worn model. The wear is only really notable on the back of the neck where the grey primer is exposed in one spot and the metallic lacquer "greened" somewhat up to around the fifth fret from contact with the hand. The body finish has comparatively little wear, and is far better preserved than most.

This guitar has had some electronic repair-the original "Hershey Bar" pickup has been expertly rewound by PU guru Tom Brantley to the original specs, and is mounted with adjustable screws to the pickguard instead of pinned as it was originally. The pots are replaced and the "Cupcake" knobs are replicas, but the switch and tone cap remain original. There is also a new metal jackplate-the fragile plastic original has nearly always broken. All else remains original.

The neck on this guitar is straighter than most and the saddle has been arched to match the fingerboard to help with playability. The frets have been crowned a bit but have hardly any wear, and this guitar plays better than the average H-44. A great sounding example of this super cool, funky and now much sought-after early solid body guitar. Generally Excellent Condition.
