Magnatone G-70 Model Lap Steel Electric Guitar (1958), made in California, serial # 54470, grey pearloid finish, hardwood body, original brown hard shell case.

Overall length is 31 5/8 in. (80.3 cm.), 7 3/4 in. (19.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 1/2 in. (622 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).

This steel is very well-preserved overall with only some very light wear to the pearloid and flocked underside and minor corrosion to the metal parts. It remains all original, except the buttons on the Safe-Ti-Slot Kluson Deluxe tuners had crumbled, so they have been replaced. There is no other notable damage or repair.

The GT-70 is a great-sounding steel from the era when Magnatone hired Paul Bigsby as a consultant to help out with their professional instrument designs, resulting in some excellent guitars. The pickup is essentially the same unit used in the Mark III, Mark IV, and Mark V Spanish guitars, generally considered the best in Magnatone's history. This is a nice example of Magnatone's best work, complete with the original HSC. Excellent Condition.
