C. F. Martin D-12-20 Model 12 String Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1972), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 299985, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

Overall length is 41 7/16 in. (105.2 cm.), 15 5/8 in. (39.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/8 in. (48 mm.).

This guitar shows some light wear but is clean overall and does not appear heavily played. The finish has checking, scuffs, and scratches (mostly to the back), but no major wear. There are no cracks to the top, back, or sides; there is one repaired crack area on the back/side seam of the lower bout, where a small impact looks to have happened. This is all solidly sealed up but noticeable with no overspray.

The bridge appears original with a newer saddle, probably lowered a bit on the front end. The pickguard is nicely replaced (the original black acetate pickguards of this period have usually curled up like a potato chip by now), but everything else on the guitar is original. This guitar is fitted with openback Van Gent tuners -- not too often seen on these -- instead of the very heavy "box" Grover pegs Martin used on many '70s 12-strings. These tuners are much lighter and handling and balance are better as a result. There appears to have been a nicely done neck reset and this is an excellent-sounding playing guitar, housed in the original 1960s-style Martin HSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
