Fender Princeton 5F2-A Model Tube Amplifier (1960), made in Fullerton, California, serial # P-04692, tweed fabric covering finish.

Height is 17 in. (43.2 cm.), 18 in. (45.7 cm.) width, and 9 in. (22.9 cm.) in depth at deepest point.

This is a great sounding example of the late-'50s "big-box" Fender Princeton, which by this point had grown into a larger unit than its early ancestors. The tube chart code is "JC" indicating assembly in March 1960, the last year of the tweed-covered design before the completely revamped "brown" models appeared. This still-1950s styled amp features the older style single 8" speaker and three-tube layout (5Y3, 6V6,12AX7) in the more spacious late-50s cabinet making for a sweetly overdriven airier tone that can get very raucous when pushed.

The tweed cabinet shows a smoky slightly darkened patina overall and some light wear mostly to the corners, but overall the covering is not heavily worn. At some point an extra jack was mounted in the lower back panel, and the hole remains. The original leather handle remains intact. The control panel shows some light wear and scuffing to the chrome but is not heavily corroded.

Internally the amp retains both original transformers (power transformer: Schumacher 606-007 and output transformer: Triad #107), the speaker is the original 1959 Oxford (date coded 465-939). It has been recently serviced with all its aging electrolytics Electrolytics and large" can" cap replaced. Most of the original "yellow" Astron signal caps are still intact and working well. All sockets, jacks and pots have been cleaned, the amp biased to spec. and a grounded 3-prong power cord added. This Princeton is now ready for the next 60 years, sounding typically great as we always expect with these small but potent tweed gems. Excellent - Condition.
