C. F. Martin D-28 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1996), made in Nazareth, PA, serial # 572740, natural finish, rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

This 1996 Martin D-28 is not a specific re-issue model, simply a standard production Dreadnought. It maintains the traditional features of this model, including Indian Rosewood back and sides, a Sitka spruce top, six ply black and white edge binding, a black and white bound soundhole rosette, triple ply binding on the back and a zipper center stripe on the back. The guitar is standard X-braced with a maple bridge plate, the pickguard has the black plastic look used since 1966.

The headstock features Indian Rosewood veneer and Martin branded chrome plated enclosed tuners. The mahogany neck has a rosewood fingerboard with graduated pearl dots and is fitted with an adjustable truss rod, accessible through the soundhole. The neck contour is a wider-feeling "C" profile without the hints of a "V" noticeable in more vintage styled models. The bridge is rosewood with a drop-in bone saddle. An after market under-saddle pickup has been added with an endpin jack and a battery pack on the neck block. This is a great gigging D-20, an excellent player just worn in enough to take out without anxiety but still a fine stage guitar.

Overall length is 41 in. (104.1 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 15/16 in. (12.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This guitar shows some general wear and tear but no serious abuse. There is a carefully reglued and cleated center seam that was open between the bridge and the tail block. No other cracks are evident. There are some areas of finish loss, most notable pickwear on the lower soundhole rim. There is finish wear at the treble side waist, around the binding on both the top and back, some loss at the treble side lower bout on the back around the binding and a spot of missing finish next to the neck block on the treble side rim; all of these have been lightly touched up. The neck has been re-set, and a strap Button installed on the treble side heel. This is simply a good gigging or recording '90's D-28, a friendly player with a nice, smooth sound now over 25 years old and just starting to feel aged in. Excellent - Condition.
