Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1974), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 540292, sunburst polyester finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

This is a very nice clean original example of a mid-'70s Fender Precision, showing not much use for the past 45+ years. The neck is the all-maple pattern re-introduced in 1969 with the "skunk stripe" on the back and the slimmer 70's era 1 5/8" nut width. The traditional sunburst body finish is combined with the new black pickguard just being introduced at the time. The thumbrest is mounted above the strings, another recent change but the bridge still has the long "G" saddle screw in use singe 1970. At just over 8 1/2 pounds, this is a somewhat lighter bass than many '74s we have seen and plays perfectly with a nice resonant and growly tone.

Overall length is 46 in. (116.8 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This is just a very clean original bass, showing very little wear and no alterations. It is complete except the center chrome pickup cover has gone missing; even the screws for it are still in place. The finish has some scuffs and tiny dings but really this bass has not been played a lot. The face in particular shows a decent amount of fade to the red pigment, which has mellowed the sunburst look a bit. It probably hung in a store window for some time long ago!

Internally this bass is all original with pots dated the 5th week of 1974 and untouched wiring and solder joints. It is set up with older flatwound strings and plays and sounds great with a very smooth low action. This would make an excellent gigging and recording bass and more proof that, even in the depths of the CBS-Fender era, the Precision Bass was a design that was almost foolproof! Includes a nice original black Tolex HSC that has lost its chrome Fender logo. Excellent + Condition.
