Gibson L-5CESN Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1977), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, natural lacquer finish, maple back and sides, spruce top; laminated maple neck with ebony fingerboard, brown tolex hard shell case.
A lovely 1970s example of one of Gibson's all-time finest guitars: the natural L-5CES. Even in this era, these top-line carved guitars were build by the finest and most experienced craftsmen at the company's Kalamazoo factory and maintain an aura of quality lacking in many less expensive Gibson products. This guitar has a carved top and back, multi-binding everywhere, and all gold-plated metal parts.
This guitar carries a "Second" marking on the back of the headstock, indicating that the factory inspectors found a cosmetic flaw, likely a visible spot of dark pigment on the binding by the lower bass bout. This is barely noticeable today. The L-5s were always made with great care, even in Gibson's less classic eras. This is an excellent playing and sounding guitar, and an enduring example of Kalamazoo's finest craftsmanship.
Overall length is 42 1/4 in. (107.3 cm.), 16 7/8 in. (42.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).
A lovely clean and original guitar; some light wear overall -- most notably a few dings and scratches to the top. Excellent pro refret, otherwise all original; a very fine playing and sounding guitar, complete with a slightly later brown Gibson HSC. Excellent + Condition.
