C. F. Martin Custom Shop 0 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (2016), Nazareth, PA, serial # 2070840.

This lovely 0 sized guitar in the vintage 12 fret pattern is a distinctive creation of Martin's custom shop. It is built with a very attractive tight grained Adirondack spruce top, finished in thin gloss with Aging Toner added to give the top a subtle vintage look. The back and sides are very straight-grain Mahogany. The top and back are bound in a traditional 0-18 style, with Madagascar Rosewood edge binding. The black and white maple binding is done in a similar style to the Style 18 Martins of 1930, as is the black ebony heelcap. The thin 1/32" backstrip and simple endpiece, both in Madagascar Rosewood are also features from 1930. The beautifully straight grained Brazilian rosewood headplate is unadorned, without the Martin decal.

The sound hole is much fancier, using the "Style 45" pattern in Abalone. The neck has a rounded "V" design Martin calls the "Modified V" with a 1930 style heel. The unbound ebony fingerboard is inlaid with small Abalone diamonds at the fifth, seventh, ninth, twelfth (with two diamonds) and fifteenth frets. The fretboard side dots are of grained ivoroid in the same positions as the diamonds.

The neck features a modern two-way truss rod accessible through the soundhole and a solid headstock. There is no volute at the headstock join, in keeping with Style 18 features. The headstock mounts nickel individual Waverley tuners with nickel buttons and a vintage style Martin Stamp on the back. The bridge is Black Ebony in the 1930 Style Belly with a long saddle and a string spacing of 2 3/8" at the saddle. Inside the guitar features vintage-style 1/4' Adirondack Golden Era style scallop bracing and a small maple bridge plate. The neck block is stamped with the C. F. Martin logo, a Custom Shop logo and the serial number. This is one of the nicest and most interesting recent-vintage Martins we have had, a re-issue of something that never was! This modern 1930 style guitar is lovely to look at and very versatile instrument, a delight to play and hear.

Overall length is 38 3/8 in. (97.5 cm.), 13 5/8 in. (34.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/4 in. (10.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This splendid one-of-a-kind guitar was built in 2015 and appears to have seen very little use since. Overall there are few minor signs of wear, no repairs and only one alteration; the fingerboard was originally spec'd with round mother of pearl dots and these have been replaced with small Abalone diamonds, set in to the same positions as the original dots. This work was neatly completed by Brothers Music Shop. This is a great-playing, very traditionally styled Martin with a huge sound for a small body guitar and an unusual amount of sustain. Includes the original case with paperwork, including the warranty card and "care and feeding" booklet. Excellent + Condition.
