Fender Stratocaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 133536, Blonde lacquer finish, ash body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard,, original black tolex hard shell case.

This is a superb example of a rare blond ash-body version of the "transition" early-CBS era Stratocaster, with some light play wear but original and unmodified. The body wood is ash; this was used only on blonde-finished instruments in this period and was a custom-ordered option on the Stratocaster -- the standard sunburst versions and all other custom color variants used the common alder.

The neck features the newer larger "CBS" headstock with gold "transition" logo, pearl dot rosewood fingerboard, and the heavy 3-ply white plastic pickguard on the blonde ash body. All other features are still to the pre-CBS standard, including the thinner lacquer on the body and neck, steel stamped-saddle bridge and trem block, and Kluson tuners. The weight is fairly light for this period at 7 lbs 13 oz., and this is simply a great-feeling and sounding guitar.

Overall length is 39 1/4 in. (99.7 cm.), 12 5/8 in. (32.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) deep. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This Strat remains in excellent original condition overall, with some average light wear but no major repairs. The lovely blonde finish on the body has aged beautifully, with an overall yellowish cast with some rubs to a lighter shade on the edges and the ash grain clearly visible through the lacquer. There are some chips and dings -- mostly very small -- with one larger ding into the wood on the face midway down the space between the trem and the bottom edge. There is a hole in the lower body horn tip for a strap button -- this would indicate that, at some point, the guitar was played left-handed, although we don't see any other signs of this; we've heard of folks doing this just to give the guitar a Hendrix vibe!

The electronic components are all original including the pickups, pots, switch, and wiring, but some of the solder joints have been re-done. The neck finish has wear to the lacquer with that classic Fender feel, smoothed down perfectly to the bare wood over more than half its surface. It looks to have been correctly refretted with appropriate smaller wire some time back. Overall this remains a great example of a fairly rare Strat; an excellent-sounding and playing guitar with a fantastic vibe. Includes the original HSC. Excellent Condition.
