Fender Precision Bass Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (1966), made in Fullerton, California, Candy Apple Red lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

This is a truly superb example of an early CBS-era custom color Fender bass still with much of the look, feel and sound of instruments from earlier in the decade. Typical features for this particular period include a thin rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay and original small frets, "transition" silver Fender logo decal, white thick 3-ply ABS pickguard, and a thin lacquer finish. This early 1966 bass (neck date-Feb 66, pots 6607) sports a vibrant Candy Apple Red paint with very little fade; even though this was one of the more popular of fender's Custom Colors, few have survived in this well-preserved state.

Overall length is 46 in. (116.8 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). This bass is in stunningly well-preserved condition; aside from a few tiny chips to the edges and one on the treble side of the neck pocket the finish exhibits only the lightest of handling marks. Beautiful Candy Apple Red finish has virtually no fade and very minimal checking. All original except for a repro handrest cover over the pickup, nothing else altered at all. Not only a great slice of California hot rod to look at, this is also an exceptionally nice playing bass; medium-light, super resonant and with that throaty growl '66 Precisions are famous for. One of the nicest custom-color Fenders we have seen in years, and a prime slice of vintage bass culture. Includes the original no-logo black case, somewhat more beat up than the bass! Excellent + Condition.
