Collings D-1 Owned and used by Pete Francis of Dispatch Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (2001), made in Austin, TX, serial # 6601, natural lacquer finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

The D-1 is one of Collings' most familiar models, the Austin, Texas builder's take on the ever popular Martin D-18. It has the same basic combination of mahogany Dreadnought body, spruce top and mahogany neck as its inspiration, with Collings' trademark neck joint, excellent build quality and crisp attention to detail. This one was built in 2001 and has Bill Collings signature on the hand-dated label. There is a 3-point contact pickup installed under the bridgplate, wired to an endpin jack. This guitar has served quite some time in the band Dispatch, the property of founding member bassist Pete Francis. The photo shows him playing it to the empty Red Bull Arena! This is a great playing, powerful sounding guitar with some cool recent history behind it.

Overall length is 40 1/2 in. (102.9 cm.), 15 3/4 in. (40 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 7/8 in. (12.4 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This guitar shows some light general wear overall; it remains original except for a strap button at the heel and the pickup installation. There is pick wear to the top most notably around the soundhole rim with a few small chips out of the edge. The rest of the guitar has some random dings and dents but no heavy wear. There are no cracks or notable repairs. The guitar plays excellent with some wear to the frets in the lower positions under the B and E strings. With 20+ years of aging and some serious use this is a very fine sounding Collings, and it has been some cool places in "Dispatch world" during its life so far. Excellent - Condition.
