Gretsch White Penguin G6134T-58VS Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (2020), made in Japan, serial # JT20020724, white lacquer finish, chambered mahogany body with maple top, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
The full name for this model is the G6134T-58 Vintage Select '58 Penguin. It is basically a re-issue of a guitar that hardly existed: a late 1950s-early '60s White Penguin, the White Falcon's diminutive and whimsical little sister. Gretsch says "Vintage Select Edition guitars are designed for the player who appreciates the finest in musical instrument heritage. The G6134T-58 Vintage Select '58 Penguin with Bigsby rocks that legacy with a finely crafted new take on that rarest of Gretsch birds".
This Penguin glides, not waddles with a pair of TV Jones Filter'Tron pickups, on a chambered mahogany body with a maple top. The company states this design "magnifies harmonic richness by letting air resonate between the top and body for livelier and more articulate tone. The dual TV Jones Classic pickups on replicate that unmistakable vintage Filter'Tron sound to fabulous sonic effect". The Bigsby supremely compliments that sonic signature, a classic pairing of twang and wang. All we can say is yup, this is as close as most mortals will ever get to an original late '50s example of this mythical bird and it is a fine player, a timeless stunner to look at and no slouch in the sound department either.
Overall length is 41 1/4 in. (104.8 cm.), 13 1/2 in. (34.3 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 15/16 in. (4.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).
This guitar appears very little used, showing just a bit of scuffing and handling marks and no actual play wear. It resides in the original case with the full package of Gretsch case candy, a resplendent showpiece for the ages and a very fine playing modern Gretsch, Near Mint Condition.
