Collings D3 Ba A Custom Brazilian Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (2008), made in Austin, TX, serial # 14949, natural lacquer finish, Brazilian rosewood back and sides; Adirondack spruce top, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and bridge, original black tolex hard shell case.

This 2008 Collings D3 ba A has premium dark Brazilian rosewood with a subtle but striking grain figure for the back and sides. This is no longer an available option from the company. The top is nicely grained Adirondack spruce, the neck Honduras mahogany. This D3 model has an interesting set of appointments; the multi-bound top does not feature herringbone trim but does have an abalone soundhole ring. The headstock is bound, as is the fingerboard which is high-grade ebony devoid of inlay. The tuners are gold-plated Waverlys. With 15+ years of aging this guitar has mellowed into a huge sounding dreadnought; a unique and very fine example of an extremely nice higher-end Collings.

Overall length is 40 1/8 in. (101.9 cm.), 15 5/8 in. (39.7 cm.) wide at lower bout. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

This guitar has been played over the last 15 years, but not too heavily. Apart from one noticeable deep ding to center of the back (touched up some time back) and a couple of adjacent scratches there is not much really noticeable wear beyond small dinks, scuffs and handling marks. The top has virtually no pickwear. There is one small tight repaired grain split on the lower back, sealed with no added touch up. The frets have some light wear, mostly along the B string. This is a fine playing, huge sounding Collings made with beautiful rosewood that is perennially hard to come by. Excellent Condition.
