Gibson Flying V Lonnie Mack Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1998), made in Nashville, TN, serial # 8-0519, limed mahogany finish, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, original brown tolex hard shell case.

This is a unique late example of Gibson's well regarded 1990's Custom Shop Lonnie Mack Flying V done up in TV yellow, a finish never stock on the model. This was a limited edition Gibson project; they originally made less than 200 of these in late 1993/94 finished in cherry, as Mack's original had been. This unusual "TV" version is one was one of two final examples issued in 1998; it was custom-made for recording artist Webb Wilder, who is known to be a "V" afficionado. This is confirmed by a shipping tag with his name on it still in the case as well as a sticker on the lid. Reportedly the other Flying V-TV was made for Nick Kane, at the time playing for the Mavericks.

Apart from the '50s style TV finish this V follows the pattern of Mack's original guitar but with a mahogany body instead of the original korina. It replicates Mack's unique modification: a steel brace securing the base of the Bigsby whammy bar unit built across the legs of the V. Thus equipped this guitar has the "Wham of that Memphis man" built into it. This one also has gold plated hardware, and sounds fantastic with its original '57 Classic humbuckers.

When these reissues were originally planned, Gibson meticulously measured Lonnie's original V and re-created this Signature instrument to the exact specs, including the fairly beefy '58-style neck. When the model was introduced, Lonnie himself claimed that they were "dead on" and used his personal one extensively on stage in place of his well-worn original Flying V. This is a super cool and very unique version of this classic machine, one of Gibson's very best '90s reissue ideas.

Overall length is 44 1/2 in. (113 cm.), 16 1/8 in. (41 cm.) width, and 1 3/8 in. (3.5 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).

This 25-year-old guitar shows some light wear but remains all original and relatively clean overall. The tip of the headstock has a couple of chips to the finish, the larger on the back while in general the finish shows some checking marks, light scuffing and minor dings and dents. All hardware is original, showing some minor wear to the gold plating notably the bridge and vibrato handle. This is a very nice product of Gibson's Custom Shop, made for a pro user and a cool and unique piece. It plays and sounds great and would be standout on any stage. The original brown hardshell case is included, a bit road-worn but solid with a collection of original paperwork inside. Overall Excellent Condition.
