Flat Top Acoustic Guitar, labeled Galiano, c. 1925, made in New York City, natural varnish finish, maple back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck with ebonized fingerboard, hard shell case.

This is an exceptionally rare and interesting New York-made guitar from the 1920s, carrying a Galiano label and stamped on the headstock "V.Spadea" with the address of his shop at 2204 Second Avenue uptown in Italian Harlem. It is quite a large instrument for the time with a 15" lower bout, and appears identical in design and construction to guitars known to have been made in the Ciani shop downtown on Kenmare Street where John D'Angelico honed his craft. With the larger body and 26" scale neck this is a very powerful sounding guitar and one of only a handful of such instruments of its type known to have survived.

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 15 in. (38.1 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 in. (10.2 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 26 in. (660 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).

This guitar has had a myriad of repairs over the last century or so but has been restored to excellent playing condition, showing a decent amount of honest wear but nothing that detracts from its historic character. . Very Good Condition.
