Gibson ES-335TD Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1968), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 953022, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

This is a simply superb, almost incredibly clean example of the classic later 1960's ES-335TD, in the sunburst finish that was one of the two standard options at the time. It is factory equipped with a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece, confirmed as original by the hangtag still in the case stamped "ES-335TD Special Bigsby". It also has the little stenciled Gibson flourish on the pickguard, which was only applied in this year as it quickly proved prone to getting worn away by strumming!

The instrument's other features are typical for 1968, with chrome-plated hardware including the Tune-O-Matic bridge with nylon saddles, trapeze tailpiece and two Gibson humbucking pickups with patent number sticker on the bases. Other typical appointments include enclosed Kluson Deluxe tuners with double-ring plastic buttons and the "amp" style black molded plastic knobs, in this case with gold caps not specifically specified for this model but obviously original. The bound rosewood fingerboard has pearloid block inlay with the narrow 1 9/16" nut of this era; it is a bit wider than some which can run as slim as 1 1/2". 2294 of these shipped out in sunburst during 1968 but few will have survived as smartly as this one, a fantastic find in a great playing and sounding late '60s guitar!

Overall length is 41 3/4 in. (106 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This is one of the cleanest 1960s guitars we have seen in a long while, all 1005 original and really looking very little played or even handled over the last 55+ years. There are some very light scuffing and handling marks but overall the finish and hardware shine like they did when LBJ was still in the white house. This is a genuine one-family guitar until this year, and according to the story the man who bought it in 1968 died not long after, leaving it to languish unplayed for a couple of generations. The frets and fingerboard have a few light play marks; hopefully he got to enjoy it a bit! It is a truly lovely time capsule piece, still in the very clean original case with that hangtag confirming the factory fitted Bigsby. They really don't turn up like this much anymore! Excellent + Condition.
