Gibson Les Paul Custom Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (2002), made in Nashville, TN, serial # 03232397, alpine white lacquer finish, mahogany body with maple cap, mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.
This "Alpine White" Les Paul Custom has apparently not seen much use but has aged beautifully and quite evenly into a sort of antique Ivory hue. It maintains the classic "Randy Rhodes" look at a fraction of the cost of Gibson's Custom Shop signature re-issues and really there is not a whole lot of difference there, especially if you want to play and wear in the guitar yourself!
This Custom has the classic features of the model, with a solid multi-bound maple-capped mahogany body and neck topped with a bound, pearl block inlaid ebony fingerboard. This one has a quite chunky feeling neck with a substantial if fairly flat "C" profile. The humbucking pickups are Gibson's 490R in the neck position, which offers the tonal characteristics of the original PAFs and the 498T in the bridge position. This variant swaps the 490R's Alnico II magnet for an Alnico V, making it slightly hotter with more emphasis on mid-ranges and highs. There is something superbly classy about this Ivory-look Les Paul; it evokes not only Rhodes' deft melodic metal but somehow an older Deco aesthetic as well.
Overall length is 39 3/8 in. (100 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 in. (5.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.)., 9.52 lbs.
This is a nice, clean and original 22 year old guitar showing no damage or repair and only light wear overall. The white finish has curdled quite evenly to a sort of ivory hue, otherwise the instrument shows only very minor scuffing and handling marks. The back of the neck has one feelable dink into but not through the lacquer behind the 10th fret area. The nut has been changed, otherwise there are no alterations. This guitar did not have "Fretless Wonder" frets; it is built with standard Gibson wire and these show hardly any wear. This is a lovely playing and sounding Custom, substantial but not as heavy as some with a superb and distinctive look. Overall Excellent Condition.
