Fender Precision Bass Custom Shop 1959 Relic Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar (2017), made in Fullerton, California, serial # CZ533304, Sherwood Green Lacquer finish, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original tweed hard shell case.
This Fender Precision Bass is a lovely Custom Shop rendition of a very rare variation of Fender's signature 4-string, with a slab rosewood fingerboard but anodized aluminum pickguard. This combination of features was only seen for a couple of months in the summer of 1959. At the time Sherwood Green was not a Fender option, so no original bass with this look would have ever existed.
The bass is described on the COA as a "1959 Journeyman Relic Precision Bass". It sports a lightly relic'ed "Aged Sherwood Green Metallic" finish on the alder body. The quarter sawn maple neck in a wide '59 style profile with Dunlop 6105 frets; it is finished in nitro lacquer, with the back of the neck stripped back to the wood between the 1st and 12th frets. The bound body is loaded with handwound "62 Precision" pickup centered in the lovely gold pickguard. This is a very attractive modern/vintage Precision, with all the '59 features including the chrome covers and fingerrest. It is set up with LaBella flatwound strings for the classic sound of the ages.
Overall length is 46 in. (116.8 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.).
This bass presents in lightly used condition; it's pretty much impossible to tell where the factory relic job leaves off and any actual wear begins. There is a small nick on the pickguard from truss rod adjustlent. The fretwire and fingerboard show hardly any wear. The bass remains all original as built at the Fender Custom Shop in the original deluxe G&G tweed hardshell case with all paperwork including the "floor traveler" sheet that details the construction minutiae and COA signed by Tom Montgomery. Overall Excellent Condition.
