Gibson ES-335TDC Model Semi-Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1974), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 511768, cherry lacquer finish, laminated maple body, mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, molded plastic hard shell case.

This is a somewhat altered but cool player's example of Gibson's classic ES-335TDC, made in the early 1970's but still with much of the feel of a '60's instrument. As with many from this period, a stop tailpiece was added in place of the original trapeze tailpiece adding sustain and honk to the tone; many players have long considered this the proper 335 setup. The period "amp style" knobs were replaced with gold 1960's capped knobs, the . The instrument's stock features include an overall deep cherry finish, bound, block inlaid fingerboard and chrome-plated hardware including the two Gibson "Patent Number" humbucking pickups.

The one-piece mahogany neck has the volute and "Made in USA" stamp typical of '70's instruments, the tuners are Schaller Kluson Deluxe style. The nut width is still the narrow 1 9/16" adopted in late 1965; the neck itself is slim down by the nut but gets a bit chunkier back-to-front as it approaches the body and feels great. There is some subtle flame to the maple on the back.

The bridge is the larger chrome Tune-O-matic that started appearing around this time, the saddles are black and have been replaced. The label is the small white-and-purple rectangle used in that period. This guitar shows some play time and what was considered player-friendly alteration but remains a great-sounding and playing instrument, not mint or absolutely original but a serious working guitar still.

Overall length is 41 3/4 in. (106 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 9/16 in. (40 mm.)., 7.59 lbs.

This is a generally lightly worn guitar, looking played in but not too heavily used. The finish is hardly faded or checked at all showing small scuffs and dings, the only heavier wear is belt-buckle scratching to the back. The back of the neck is worn smooth but not to the wood with a couple of small dings and dents. The headstock edges are less worn than many. There are a few small lamination checks to the top and back, with some slight stress cracking to the laminate around the jack.

There is wear to some hardware, notably heavy plating loss to the pickup covers. There has been some hardware alteration as noted, the strap buttons are also larger 70's style. The original frets have been crowned down a bit but still play well. Everything works as intended, and this is a super guitar to play with a cool vintage '70s vibe. The case a newer molded HSC; an original hangtag/booklet and cable are included. Overall Very Good + Condition.
