Hernandis Grade #2 Model Classical Guitar (1973), made in Japan, serial # 0805, natural lacquer finish, Indian rosewood back and sides, Spanish pine top; African cedar neck with Granadillo fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.

This "Hernandis Grade #2" branded concert guitar was built in Japan for US importer Sherry-Brenner Ltd. in the early 1970s. It is a nicely made production Spanish style classical with some attractive decorative touches, including an elaborate rosette and marquetry on the bridge and headstock. It carries a detailed descriptive label listing wood sources but there was no master builder named "Hernandis", it was simply the importer's invention. This is a solid instrument and makes for a good knock-around classical with a surprisingly rich sound, an excellent practice or recording studio instrument.

Overall length is 39 5/8 in. (100.6 cm.), 14 7/8 in. (37.8 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 1/8 in. (10.5 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 26 1/4 in. (667 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).

This 50+ year old guitar shows some general handling marks with scuffs, dings and light scratches to the finish but no major wear or repair. It is a very nice, easy playing classical with a friendly, midrangey sound but a surprising bass response as well. It lives in a nice later HSC. Overall Excellent - Condition.
