Kamaka HF-4 Model Baritone Ukulele (2015), made in Honolulu, Hawaii, serial # 152057, natural finish, koa body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, original black tolex hard shell case.

This Kamaka Baritone is an excellent example of this fairly late-arriving member of the ukulele family. The baritone ukulele hits the spot where the uke and the tenor guitar meet, a Nylon-strung 4-string with a 20 1/4" scale tuned like a guitar, but with no bass strings. It is a fun strumming instrument easily accessible to both guitar and uke players, and was popular as a student and sing-along accompaniment instrument in the 1960s. Today many modern Hawaiian combos make good use of these larger, deeper toned ukes in solo and ensemble settings.

The still-thriving Kamaka concern are the last survivors of the original Hawaiian ukulele boom of 100 years ago, still building high quality instruments in the islands. While perhaps best known for their distinctive pineapple uke, the company makes a wide range of professional quality uke-family instruments. This solid wood baritone is a great mellow strummer with the authentic Island sound and real Hawaiian vibe.

Fashioned from beautifully grained solid koa for the body with a mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard, the HF-4 offers plenty of neck for an advanced uke player to work out on while still being superbly easy to play for the most basic beginner. "The sound of this special ukulele is deep and warm, and brings to mind warm summer nights and finding peace and contentment while quietly relaxing with family and friends." is what Kamaka themselves say about this model. This 10-year old example is a fine player, just beginning to season in with a rich sound.

Overall length is 31 in. (78.7 cm.), 10 1/2 in. (26.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 20 1/4 in. (514 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/16 in. (36 mm.).

This 10-year old uke appears very little used, with just some minor handling marks. It is an excellent player with a deep, well rounded sound complete in the original HSC. Overall Excellent + Condition.
