Darren Hippner is something of a rarity in the 21st Century, building guitars alone by himself in his own one man shop. There are no associates, apprentices, students, or employees; every Hippner guitar is handcrafted by Darren alone using primarily hand tools. This 2004 Fleta model is built with a cedar top over beautifully grained Indian rosewood back and sides, mated to a Spanish Cedar Neck with an Ebony Fingerboard. The bridge is also beautifully figured rosewood, the headstock is fitted with gold-plated tuners with marbleized plastic buttons. The instrument is hand-finished in very thin lacquer,
Darren Hippner has been a professional luthier building guitars full time for 30 years since 1994. His custom guitars include a wide variety of designs such as Torres, Hauser, Ramirez & Fleta Concert models, 8-String guitars, double top and lattice braced classicals, Steel-string acoustic dreadnaughts, parlor & 12-Strings using a wide variety of premium tonewoods. He handcrafts all of his instruments himself, using basic wood shop machinery and hand tools. By working alone, he has total control over every phase of building and can produce consistently fine musical instruments. He maximizes the potential of each piece of wood by voicing the wood and shaping the thickness graduations individually using touch, feel & tap-tones, the same way old master Italian violin luthiers and master Spanish guitar luthiers worked.
We have handled several Hippner guitar and can say they are all very good sounding instruments; with a rich, deep sound that retains excellent projection. This is a very nicely made guitar with a pleasingly individual aesthetic.
Overall length is 39 3/4 in. (101 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).
This just over 20 year old guitar shows some very minor play and handling wear but does not have any notable damage or repair. The top has some light fingermarks above and below the strings and very small random dings and dents over the rest of the instrument. The guitar remains original as built, well seasoned over two decades now making for an excellent playing and sounding instrument. Overall Excellent - Condition.
