Fender Telecaster American Nashville B-Bender Owned by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (2007), made in Corona, CA, serial # Z7172971, sunburst finish, ash body, maple neck, original molded black plastic hard shell case.
Here we have one of Fender's American-made Nashville B-Bender Telecaster, originally available from 2000-2015. It represents the ultimate "country" evolution of the venerable Telecaster, with the integral Parsons-Green B string bender (a modernized version of the original as used by Clarence White) and a third Stratocaster pickup in the center position for the out-of- phase sounds so beloved of Nashville players since the 1980s.
The pickups are American Standard Single-Coil Tele units with a Custom Shop Texas Special Single-Coil Strat in the middle position. These are set up with standard Strat 5-Position pickup switching and the traditional Telecaster master volume and tone knobs. The maple fingerboard neck has a 9.5" radius with a satin urethane finish and medium jumbo fretwire. The body is finished in sunburst with a snazzy pearloid pickguard.
Fender's own description reads: "The sweetly plaintive sound of pedal steel guitar from a time-honored special Telecaster design. For the guitarist who yearns to pour beguiling country expressiveness into every lonesome, heart-tugging note, the inventive design and classic style of the U.S.-made American Nashville B-Bender Telecaster has no equal. A wonderfully moving sound from a truly distinctive Tele model."
We don't get a lot of B-Bender Telecasters through and this one is fairly heavy but certainly a lot of fun to play, a truly unique instrument and one that "Does the thing it does" better than anything else! And this one did its thing for a little while with certified Tele lover, Jeff Tweedy of Chicago's favorite band, Wilco.
Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 3/4 in. (4.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.).
This guitar shows virtually no signs of use with no notable dings, dents, or scratches and the chrome plating on the B-Bender shines like it just came out of the box. It plays very nicely, sounds great, and functions exactly as it should and still has all its case candy with an additional wide black leather strap from Mr. Tweedy. The Fender molded hardshell case bears the markings of the Wilco Loft on the edge and inside is a certificate of authenticity further validating the provenance of this piece. And most importantly, it is undeniably a whole lot of fun if you are in need of an instant dose of twang. Overall Excellent + Condition.
