Jose Gonzalez Lopez Classical Guitar (2002)
Jose Gonzalez Lopez Classical Guitar (2002), made in Granada, Spain, serial # #30, natural finish, Indian rosewood back and sides, spruce top, Spanish cedar neck with rosewood fingerboard, black tolex hard shell case.
Jose Gonzalez Lopez was born in Orgiva (Granada) in 1961 and began his apprenticeship at age 28 under the guidance of master luthiers Antonio Marin Montero and Jose Marin Plazuelo. Gonzalez Lopez' instruments are deeply rooted deeply in the traditional Granada school of guitar making, and for some years now he has been building excellent Spanish Concert guitars fully worthy of the standards and reputation of the handmade instruments from that city. This handmade guitar features beautiful straight-grained rosewood back and sides and a wider grain spruce top and a Spanish cedar neck with an ebony fingerboard. The label is hand-signed by the maker. The tone of this guitar is very traditionally Spanish; rich and clear with a quick response but more depth than many modern instruments and an overriding sweetness in the trebles.
Overall length is 38 3/4 in. (98.4 cm.), 14 1/4 in. (36.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).
This guitar shows some light general play wear and two repairs to grain splits in the top. One of these is on the center seam, sealed with no finish work, the other runs from the back edge to just above the bass side foot of the bridge. This one is an older repair with some touch up and buffing to the finish. The top has some dings and dents but less finger wear than many, and the rest of the guitar is mostly quite clean. Something was once adhered to the beck of the neck leaving marks behind the sixth and ninth frets, with some slight discoloration in between. The guitar plays very well with a lively sound, and comes in a good HSC. Excellent - Condition.
