Felipe Conde FC28 Classical Guitar (2019)
Felipe Conde FC28 Model Classical Guitar (2019), made in Madrid, Spain, natural finish, rosewood back and sides, spruce top; mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, black hard shell case.
Felipe Conde has been crafting exceptional quality flamenco and concert guitars for just short of half a century out of Madrid alongside his brother, Mariano Jr. The Conde Hermanos are a family of respected builders carrying the torch of the family business after the passing of their father Mariano Sr. and uncle Faustino. These Condes were the proud descendants of Domingo Esteso who began the shop after training under the notable Manuel Ramirez. As "Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso" or "Nephews of Domingo Esteso," they made instruments preferred by players spanning from traditional masters like Paco de Lucia to the likes of Leonard Cohen. This guitar comes from the bench of Felipe himself, no longer formally under the imprint of Conde Hermanos though build in their longtime workshop.
This FC28, initially conceived by Felipe's father and uncle, remains one of Felipe's most popular hallmark offerings: a German spruce top and rosewood back and sides produce a robust sound with a clean, tight finish befitting of any flamenco fingerstyle player or concert player alike. Just below their signature "Media Luna" carved headstock is a traditional 2" nut and subsequent ebony fingerboard providing a snappiness and clarity to the tone, never overwhelmed by bass though still retaining heft through a dry, grounded midrange. The spruce is finished in the rich "en color" orange tint, and the ornamental details on this guitar alone tell a story of superior craftsmanship with a beautifully detailed rosette and delicate multi-ply binding tracing every edge of the instrument. It is hand signed and dated by Conde on the label and carries the hallmark maker's stamps on the heel and foot.
Overall length is 39 in. (99.1 cm.), 14 3/8 in. (36.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 15/16 in. (10 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).
This recent Conde guitar shows only light signs of play, with a few scuffs and no truly notable wear. There are some very faint nail marks below the sound hole, with some scattered dings and dents and a couple of deeper re-stringing marks behind the bridge. There are no repairs or modifications to this guitar. This comfortable and lightweight instrument plays beautifully with a truly inspiring sound and resides in a black hardshell case. Excellent Condition.
