Maccaferri Islander Model Soprano Ukulele, c. 1950's, made in New York, swirl pattern and ivory Dow Styron plastic.
Part of the 1950's Maccaferri empire of styrene plastic instruments, the Islander uke is a simple, attractive, and surprisingly good-sounding creation. The one-piece molded back/side/neck assembly is made of spectacularly "grained" swirled multicolored polystyrene, as is the fingerboard. The top and headstock face are made of contrasting ivory plastic, with an "islander" logo, Maccaferri crest, and diminutive Hula dancer figure on the head. The dot fingerboard markers are screened on. Tuners are metal-barreled friction pegs with ivory plastic buttons.
A very nice piece of playable 1950's whimsy, and a great "beach uke!"
Overall length is 21 in. (53.3 cm.), 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 13 3/4 in. (349 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/16 in. (36 mm.).
All original except one tuner button, which is the correct style but a slightly different shade. Some light scratching and wear to the back, but overall very nice condition…plays perfectly. Excellent Condition.
