Rickenbacker Model 59 Model Lap Steel Electric with Matching Amplifier Guitar (1938), made in Los Angeles, California, serial # E 1087, ivory textured enamel finish, stamped steel body.
About as simple as a guitar/amp combo gets, the Rickenbacker Model 59 was the company's lowest priced student steel offering before WWII. Stamped metal guitar body and amp case, no on/off switch, volume only on the guitar, and a built-in heavy duty cable permanently attached to the amp chassis. Just plug in and go! The guitar is of course usable (and with the early horseshoe pickup great-sounding) with any amp, but we think this swingin' set is perfect Hawaiian guitar bliss on a budget!
Overall length is 29 3/4 in. (75.6 cm.), 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 1/2 in. (572 mm.). Width of nut is 2 in. (51 mm.).
There is some wear to the paint finish on both amp and guitar (more on the amp), but this is overall a nicely preserved set. Amp handle replaced -- otherwise, all original. Sounds great! Generally Excellent Condition.
