Rickenbacker Ace M-88 Model Tube Amplifier (1948), made in Los Angeles, alligator grain fabric finish.

Height is 12 in. (30.5 cm.), 13 1/2 in. (34.3 cm.) width, and 6 1/4 in. (15.9 cm.) deep.

The Ace was Rickenbacker's late 1940s student amp, issued as a set with a simple lap steel and sold mostly through teaching studios. This was a typical very basic student amp, with two inputs and a single volume knob. This one has some wear and tear but remains a good-sounding little unit. The output transformer looks to have been replaced long ago, and recently the amp had a cap job and a 3-prong power cord added.

There is an old "Dollar patch" on the speaker cone (using the heavy linen paper from a $1 bill doped to the paper cone to repair a tear). The front grill once had a decorative Hawaiian scene; now just some random flocking and color remains. The handle is a later addition, a plastic unit on rings replacing the original leather. A neat little amp, funky and snarly rather than super saturated-sounding, but fun to play. Very Good + Condition.
