Magnatone Model Tube Amplifier, labeled Titano (1965), made in Fullerton, California, grey fabric cover finish.

This "Titano" amp is a re-branded variation on the Magnatone company's model 400 series, built for resale by the accordion wholesaler the Ernest F. Deffner Company. Mostly celebrated today for their true pitch shifting vibrato circuit, Magnatone amplifiers of the 1950s and 1960s were one of the best regarded competitors to the world-beating amps being built a stretch down the road by Fender. This late 1964-early 1965 Model was a final version of the early 1960s 400 line, which underwent cosmetic changes that year.

This is a 1 X 12", around 18 watt combo with reverb and the full Magnatone vibrato circuit. It is rather sweet-sounding at low volumes with a wonderful crunchy snarl when pushed. The control panel offers high and low gain inputs, 2 volume and 1 tone control with a "Bright-Mellow-Dark" switch, a reverb depth knob, and the vibrato speed and depth controls, which are this amp's secret weapon. This represents the smallest most easily portable variation of Magnatone's trem-o-lastic classics, a real gem of an affordable tube combo and one of the coolest obscure amps of its era -- even including their Fullerton neighbor's competition!

Height is 23 1/8 in. (58.7 cm.), 18 1/2 in. (47 cm.) width, and 9 in. (22.9 cm.) deep.

This amp is in solid and relatively clean condition overall, with some dings and dents to the cabinet but no heavy wear. The most notable cosmetic defect is somebody appears to have rather over-aggressively cleaned the control panel, and lost much of the stenciled graphics on the left side. As a result of this, the two volume knobs and single tone are not labeled, but it's not hard to remember what they do! Internally original with a few small maintenance repairs, this is a great-sounding unit with that much sought-after Magnatone vibrato working great! Very Good + Condition.
