Vox Stinger IV Model Electric Bass Guitar (1968), made in Recanati, Italy, serial # 402060, cherry polyester finish, laminated maple body and neck, ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case.

The stylish teardrop-shaped Vox Stinger IV is a direct descendant of the 1966 Wyman bass, built to the same hollow body design with a single sound hole and very narrow short-scale neck. Bill Wyman's endorsement deal with Vox proved relatively short-lived; by 1968 the bass no longer bore his name, but Vox continued using the same basic design. All Vox basses in the 1968 line used this neck design, which is about the slimmest ever fitted to a professional class bass! The Stinger has the typical Vox appointments for that year: wider-cased metal covered pickups and a HUGE headstock with a VOX logo made of individual gold plastic letters.

The Stinger IV does not have the elaborate onboard transistorized effects introduced by Vox around 1968; a sister instrument called the Constellation IV was issued with that array. All the Vox basses from this period shared most features and hardware. These are some of the nicest Vox instruments in terms of build quality and fretwork. This is a fast-playing and good-sounding if rather eccentrically styled bass from the company's later '60s line. With its bright cherry finish and striking teardrop shape, this is a distinctive instrument by any standard!

Overall length is 45 1/2 in. (115.6 cm.), 13 in. (33 cm.) wide, and 2 1/4 in. (5.7 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 29 1/2 in. (749 mm.). Width of nut is 1 7/16 in. (36 mm.).

This is an exceptionally clean bass showing very little wear anywhere -- easily one of the nicest 1960s Vox instruments we have had. Apart from a few checking lines on the body and some tarnish on the tuners and plated parts, it looks only a few years old, not 50! The finish shows only light scuffing and is almost completely free of the typical dings and dents.

This is also an excellent player with a lovely straight and unworn neck and two powerful Ferro-sonic pickups. The original long rectangular Vox-branded case is also in very fine condition, with the vinyl hold-down strap from the neck rest broken but included. The original strap and vinyl pouch are still in the pocket. A super cool psychedelic era time capsule find! Excellent + Condition.
