Gibson BR-6 Model Tube Amplifier (1951), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, brown tolex covering finish.

Introduced in 1946, the BR-6 is a fairly long-lived amp in Gibson's line and a staple of the catalog for much of the 1950s. This is the second version of the model, which was re-styled and beefed up in 1948. This version lasted until 1956 when it was modernized into the GA-6.

This 1-10" speaker combo amp puts out 10-12 watts of warm Gibson tone that takes on a menacing edge when cranked! One brown chicken-head volume knob is the entire control array, with three inputs. The original field-coil speaker in this amp is date coded 285-048 indicating manufacture in late 1950.

This amp has rather classy looks with the cabinet covered in the same brown fabric as contemporary Gibson cases. The face is adorned with a brown stenciled Gibson block-script logo on the lower right corner and "G" metal plate pinned to a bar over the center of the speaker opening.

This amp is not particularly versatile, but has a nice purr to it at lower volume and a full saturated attack over "5". A neat small period amp and a wonderful play & display complement to any 1950s Gibson guitar.

Height is 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.), 18 1/4 in. (46.4 cm.) width, and 7 1/2 in. (19 cm.) deep.

This is a fine-sounding example of this early '50s Gibson amp, recently serviced with a typical cap job, 3-prong grounded cord, re-biasing, and a set of carefully matched newer tubes. The cabinet is solid if a bit scruffy, as is the chassis frame; the control faceplate and markings are comparatively clean. The leather handle is newer, the back panel is missing, and the back edges of the cabinet are a bit worn away where the panel once was. There is a small piece of fabric missing from one side and there are no feet on the bottom of the cabinet.

This amp looks to have probably spent some time in a basement somewhere, but internally has been thoroughly cleaned and maintenanced and sounds lovely. Very Good + Condition.
