Fender Deluxe Model 5C3 Model Tube Amplifier (1954), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 2244, tweed fabric covering finish.

Height is 16 1/4 in. (41.3 cm.), 18 in. (45.7 cm.) width, and 8 5/8 in. (21.9 cm.) deep.

This is a truly superb example of a wide-panel tweed Deluxe, one of Fender's all-time classic amplifier designs. The tube chart and chassis carry the code stamp "DD" indicating a production date of April 1954. The masking-tape with the assembler's signature remains inside the chassis; Lupe wired this one up, we are big fans of her work! The addition of a separate on/off switch not incorporated into a pot was the most notable change this model offered from the preceding 5B3 Deluxe, which was effected during 1953.

This Deluxe is one of the cleaner we have ever had, complete with the original heavy canvas cover. The tweed covering has some minor wear, mostly to the lower corners. There is some light staining to the lower sides and back panel but nothing serious. The control plate is relatively clean with some light corrosion spots and minor wear to the stenciled graphics. The leather handle is a high grade repro of the original style.

Internally this is a nicely original amp, with no circuit changes, just typical maintenance work. The original single 12" blue Jensen speaker dated to the 43rd week of 1953 remains fully intact. The transformers are untouched original, the Power transformer coded 6452 and the output marked 246. The original pots are dated in a range all from 1953: 304 312, 304 345 and 304 349. The rectifier and power tubes are all period vintage (and quite possibly original) RCA. To keep this amp sounding great in the 21st century there has been the standard cap work with all electrolytic caps replaced and a 3-prong grounded cord added. The original two red "firecracker" Astron caps are still intact and performing well. All tube sockets, pots and jacks have been cleaned.

The 1954 Fender Deluxe is simply one of the best recording and club gigging amps ever designed. This lovely example is a fine-sounding unit both clean at lower volume and cranked to "12"...yup, that's one past "11." Very well-maintained, this amp is a true testament to the genius of Leo Fender and the very high standards maintained by his crew. This world-standard amp is ready to rock for another 65+ years. Overall Excellent Condition.
