Guild M-65 3/4 Ch. Model Thinline Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1966), made in Hoboken, NJ, serial # EC-186, cherry lacquer finish, laminated mahogany back and sides; laminated maple top; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

The Guild M-65 3/4 is a simply a neat little guitar, a small fully hollow body mated to a short scale neck. With a short 22 3/4 scale fingerboard it was intended primarily as a student instrument but is still a fully professional quality guitar. It is surprisingly full-sounding, and this diminutive instrument is incredibly light and very comfortable to handle. This one was made in early 1966, one of the first of only 85 shipped that year.

The "Ch." for "Cherry" designation on the label marks this as fairly rare variation. Most period M-65s carry a sunburst finish top on a maple body but this has the same laminated mahogany construction as the cherry Starfires. It also carries the great sounding metal-covered single coil pickup Guild only used in the mid-60's, nicknamed the "Mickey Mouse" unit by Guild workers. One of Guild's often forgotten designs, the M-65 3/4 is fine playing and neat piece of unusual '60s vintage cool.

Overall length is 37 in. (94 cm.), 13 3/4 in. (34.9 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 2 1/16 in. (5.2 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 22 1/2 in. (572 mm.). Width of nut is 1 9/16 in. (40 mm.).

This guitar is fairly clean overall with some general finish wear including checking, dings, dents and scrapes with the heaviest wear being along the unbound back edge. The tuners have been restored to the original cheap but functional Japanese-made machines; something else was there for a time and there are small mounting holes visible in the back of the headstock attesting to that.

Other than this restoration the guitar retains all original finish and fittings. The headstock facing has shrunk slightly as these tend to over time but is still solid. The frets have only minimal wear and the guitar is an excellent player with a bigger sound than one might expect. Includes a quite decent modern HSC. Excellent - Condition.
