Fender Stratocaster Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1962), made in Fullerton, California, serial # 84795, white lacquer re- finish, alder body with Brazilian rosewood fingerboard on maple neck, black tolex hard shell case.

Overall length is 38 15/16 in. (98.9 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.).

This is a much-traveled slab-board Pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster, refinished more than once and heavily played over the decades. It is no longer a fully complete original guitar but is nearly all vintage Fender components still has patina and vibe to spare! The body was refinished to white decades ago and has developed a nice fade and patina over time, as the original Olympic White ones do. It has dings, dents and chips that are the result of actual use, not the artificial relicing often seen today. Looking in the trem cavity at the paint build-up it appears the guitar may have been previously refinished both blue and green before its current white livery; there is no discernable trace of the original body finish.

The neck finish is mostly original, and very well worn in. In some spots this has been polished out with some minor touch ups but most of the neck is simply worn down to the wood from playing. The original pencil date mark of 1062 is present and undisturbed. The tuners are original and correct period Kluson Deluxe pegs but have been remounted, as there is evidence of other slightly larger tuners having been installed at some point. The Fender decal logo is original and a bit worn but not altered. The neck was refretted with wire somewhat larger (mostly taller) than the original pattern and the fingerboard has been planed and trued; the body end of the thick rosewood fingerboard has been thinned out somewhat. The frets have virtually no wear and playability is excellent.

The body and greenish nitrocellulose pickguard appear to be matched and correct for 1962. The pickguard is missing the lower forward tip and there is a crack by the neck pickup, and couple of smaller ones on other screws as is often the case. The three pickups are vintage Fender but not original to the instrument. The bridge and neck pickups are both dated to 1964, but quite different from each other. The neck pickup is a very early grey-bobbin unit hand dated in pencil to 11-23-64, while the bridge pickup is a black bobbin yellow-stamp dated to March that year, a short-lived marking scheme. The middle pickup is a black-bobbin unit carrying no markings, which would be typical for 1962-4. The switch and all cloth leads appear correct, although as would be expected some solder joints have been re-done over the years. The tone pot is newer, dated to 1997, the other two are original Fender parts coded to the 43rd week of 1960 and the 4th week of 1961. The jack is newer, the cup appears original.

The bridge components including saddles and trem arm appear to be original to the instrument and correct for 1962, with some typical corrosion. The neckplate is original with a correct serial number, the chrome plating on it looks to have been buffed a bit in the center. The neck mounting screws are newer. The trem springs and claw are original, the trem cover is more recent and artificially aged. The mounting screws for this and the pickguard appear to be original. This Strat has obviously lived a hard life, but despite some indignities it has survived through it remains a fine player's instrument, a '62 Strat that has been played and played and still comes back for more. Overall Very Good + Condition.
