Mike Ramsey 5 String Banjo (2008), made in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, serial # 2081, shaded maple finish, laminated maple rim amd neck, ebony fingerboard.

Overall length is 37 in. (94 cm.), 12 in. (30.5 cm.) diameter head, and 2 3/4 in. (7 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.).

This banjo shows some light play wear but remains pretty much as Mike Ramsey built it, some 13 or so years ago. The nickel plating has some general tarnish and there is a piece of black Velcro tape stuck on the rim near the tailpiece, and there is some very light finish wear. Features include a thin maple rim with a 'Little Wonder' style simple tone ring and a frailing scoop on the dot-neck ebony fingerboard. This banjo mates a shorter scale neck to a large 12 inch head, so offers a darker, plunkier sound than many frailers while being light and very easy to play. Mike Ramsey sadly passed away recently, so there will be no more of these. This is a delightful instrument, plain but beautifully made with a lovely sound. Excellent Condition.
